The symbol of the speculum is deeply embedded in my work. The word emanates from Latin meaning mirror and to look. A speculum is both a gynaecological instrument and a mirror. Within my practice it has served as a navigational instrument, steering me towards themes such as sexuality, mysticism and the post-human.
Having grown up in Ireland and having spent the last four years in Scotland, I have used facts of my life to create surreal works that exist in the hazy space between fiction and reality.
